Cookie Policy

This policy explains how MakeYourHamper uses cookies and similar technologies.

1. What are cookies and similar technologies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your web browser when you visit a website. They help websites remember information about your visit, such as your preferences and choices.

"Similar technologies" include browser storage mechanisms such as localStorage and sessionStorage. These work in a similar way to cookies but are stored locally within your browser rather than being sent to a server with every request. They allow websites to store data on your device to improve functionality and user experience.

2. How we use cookies and similar technologies

MakeYourHamper uses essential cookies and similar technologies to ensure the website functions correctly. We do not use cookies for advertising or unnecessary tracking.

Essential storage

We use the following essential storage to provide core site functionality:

Hamper selections - Your chosen products, preferences, and build progress are stored in browser storage (localStorage) so they persist as you navigate between pages and across page refreshes.
Cookie consent preference - Your choice to accept or reject non-essential cookies is stored in browser storage (localStorage) so we don't ask you again on every visit.
Session data - Temporary session information (such as whether you've started a new hamper build) is stored in sessionStorage and is automatically cleared when you close the browser tab.

These are strictly necessary for the website to function and do not require your consent under UK PECR regulations.

Affiliate tracking

If you arrive at our site via a link containing a referral code (for example, ?ref=CODE), we store that code in browser storage (localStorage) for up to 30 days. This lets us correctly attribute a sale to the affiliate who referred you, even if you don't purchase on your first visit.

This does not identify you personally, and is not shared with third parties or used for advertising.

Optional analytics

We use Google Analytics, an optional analytics tool, to help us understand how visitors use the website - for example, which pages are most popular and how users navigate through the hamper builder.

Separately, Cloudflare Web Analytics counts visits without cookies and without storing anything on your device, so it does not need consent. Google Analytics will only be activated if you give your consent via the cookie banner when you first visit the site. Analytics data is used solely to improve the website experience and is never used for advertising purposes.

You can withdraw your consent at any time by visiting the Manage Cookie Settings section on our Policies page.

3. Third-party cookies

When you proceed to checkout, your payment is processed by Stripe. Stripe may set its own cookies to facilitate secure payment processing and fraud prevention. These cookies are governed by Stripe's privacy policy.

4. How to manage cookies

You can control cookies and similar technologies in the following ways:

Cookie banner - When you first visit our site, you can choose to accept or reject non-essential cookies.
Cookie settings - You can change your preference at any time by visiting Manage Cookie Settings on our Policies page.
Browser settings - Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies and clear browser storage through their settings. Please note that blocking essential storage may prevent the website from functioning correctly (for example, your hamper selections may not be remembered).

5. Changes to this policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. The latest version will always be available on this page.
